11 Apr Case Study: Waste Recovery Permit Orsett Quarry
Ingrebourne Valley Ltd asked us to collate environmental information on three neighbouring parcels of land to prove their financial benefit to achieve a successful waste recovery permit outcome.
In our recent webinar, “The Long Road to Recovery”, on the recovery of waste to land, we discussed our work supporting Ingrebourne Valley’s planning and environmental permitting needs on three sites in Thurrock.
Across three neighbouring parcels of land, including Orsett Quarry, we provided a range of geo-environmental and regulatory advice.
Although dormant, the quarry had a ROMP permission for continued mineral extraction and restoration, however, ecological surveys identified notable faunal and animal species resulting in the site being classed of high ecological value at a county level.
An adjacent area was identified on which to create an ecological park to relocate these protected species/habitats.
A recovery permit application for the use of inert material at the ecological park site was submitted to the Environment Agency (EA) to create wetlands and dry grassland. Following extended negotiations, the EA issued a recovery permit after the financial test was justified.
