Responsibilities

You should be experienced in the investigation and qualitative and semi-quantitative risk assessment of land contamination, understand current and emerging best practice relating to brownfield land, have a good understanding of engineering geology and geotechnical parameterisation of ground conditions for a range of projects including property, transport and infrastructure developments. Your experience should be applicable to a wide range of environments across the UK.

The successful applicant will have a proven technical, commercial and project management track record and must have the right flare, drive and enthusiasm to embrace the future which will help us develop and continue to expand our growing team and client base across a broad spectrum of sectors.

Person Specification

Ideally the candidate would have:

  • A strong academic background with good academic qualifications – as a minimum first degree in geology or geography or related scientific subject.  A second degree in geology or with a large component of engineering geological sciences is desirable.
  • A minimum of 8 years post graduate experience relevant to this application.
  • Working towards or achieved chartered status with a relevant body (CGeol, CEnv, CEng or CIWEM).
  • Excellent technical experience in brownfield land, site investigation and geotechnical parameterisation.
  • Able to undertake Phase 1 Desk Studies, Phase 2 Site Investigations (with experience of a range of site investigation techniques), Remediation Strategies, Earthworks Specifications and Verification Reports.
  • Good report writing skills including the ability to self-check and to produce high quality and accurate work. Reports would include factual and interpretative reports including generic qualitative/ quantitative risk assessments, engineering parametrisation and geotechnical design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards and have an understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of risk management and remediation techniques.
  • Demonstrate experience of working on wider environmental projects such as land use planning and environment impact assessment, mineral extraction and landfill assessments.
  • In depth understanding of Health and Safety requirements including CDM 2015.
  • Able to support senior management with bid preparation.
  • Able to check work of more junior members of the team.
  • Able to manage projects – staff, resources, financial, commercial aspects.
  • Excellent client management skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.

In this role the candidate would be expected to:

  • Actively support ESI’s commercial development plans by developing and growing ESI’s client base in Transport and Infrastructure, particularly in the South East.
  • Use existing and new industry contacts to develop leads and opportunities.  Successfully translate opportunities into projects through effective client management and proposal writing.
  • Project manage/direct and technically lead T&I and water resources projects that deliver high quality, pragmatic advice and solutions.
  • Support the growth of the Reading office.
  • Support the Water Group Director and Manager in the mentoring and development of junior staff.
  • Line manage Water Group staff based in the Reading office.

 

Person Specification

Ideally the candidate would have:

  • A postgraduate qualification in Hydrogeology or a related scientific discipline
  • Over 10 years’ experience in of working in the Transport & Infrastructure industry
  • Chartered status
  • A strong track record of developing opportunities, winning work within the Transport & Infrastructure industry and managing client relationships, preferably in the South East
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

As a senior member within ESI you will work within a multidisciplinary team of specialists to provide services for the private and public sectors as well as regulatory agencies.  Your principal responsibility will be to undertake surface water management work and help develop and grow these capabilities within ESI, particularly in relation to flood risk assessment and SUDS.  This will include staff mentorship/motivation; management and development of both existing and new clients; contributing to the achievement of the Property Group’s billable target and generally supporting the Group Director in achieving the overall group targets and objectives.  You will undertake technical work, prepare quotations, budgets and work plans for upcoming projects and ensure that all projects you manage are completed on time and on budget.  You will undertake client and regulatory liaison.

 

Person Specification

Ideally the candidate would have:

  • BSc or MSc in relevant water management discipline
  • Preferably Chartered
  • Preferably minimum of 5 years’ experience
  • Preparation of Proposals and Tender documents.
  • Project management and financial control.
  • Key requisite is experience in conceptual and detailed SUDS design and an understanding of how SUDS fit within the planning system.
  • 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling capabilities for flood risk and water resource assessment with knowledge of industry software packages (Tuflow/ISIS; HEC-RAS, Micro Drainage).
  • Excellent client management skills and experience;
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills;
  • Motivated to win new business for the company;
  • Experience with major infrastructure and minerals projects will be a bonus.
  • Contribute to research and innovation projects including the development and implementation of new services.
  • Delivery of high quality, pragmatic, advice and solutions to environmental problems.
  • Adhere to ESI’s quality assurance and health and safety procedures.
